This year’s NAMPO Harvest Day wasn’t about banners or booths for SA Harvest. It was about building real relationships with the people who grow South Africa’s food.
While we didn’t formally exhibit at the show, our presence was deliberate and strategic. Chiara Henry and Janine Levy, from SA Harvest’s procurement team, attended to connect directly with stakeholders across the agricultural value chain. From seed scientists to agri-tech suppliers, policymakers to water management specialists, they walked the grounds with a purpose: to build a network that helps close the devastating gap between surplus and hunger.
“We know the food is out there. Our job is to build the bridge (and the trust) to move it to where it’s needed most,” says Chiara. “Events like NAMPO allow us to connect with decision-makers we wouldn’t normally meet and to position SA Harvest as more than a food charity. We are a logistics-enabled solution for surplus food.”
Presence That Sparked Conversations
Although SA Harvest did not run an exhibition stand, our participation generated brand awareness and opened up important conversations. Our collaboration with Agri-Alert offered a visible and engaging presence through their coffee stand, where visitors learned that every cup supported our mission to end hunger.
We know the presence of our stickers, posters, and messaging alongside thousands of agricultural stakeholders helped introduce SA Harvest to new networks. The conversations that began here matter and we plan to nurture them.
From Surplus to Service: The Farmer’s Role
In a recent interview with Landbou Radio, we unpacked SA Harvest’s logistics-driven model of food rescue and made a direct appeal to farmers:
If you have edible surplus (off-spec, overstocked, or excess produce) don’t plough it back. Let us get it to those who need it most.
We understand the pressures of the farming industry: margins are tight, and waste is often the path of least resistance. But with SA Harvest, there’s an alternative. We’ll handle the logistics, issue a Section 18A certificate for the full value of the donation, and provide reporting that shows the real impact of your food.
You farm. We move. Together, we feed.
Trusted Partners to Agriculture
The overwhelming feedback from our NAMPO attendance confirmed that SA Harvest is seen as a credible and collaborative ally in the food system. Our ability to offer reliable logistics, traceability, and strategic communication makes us a natural partner for anyone wanting to reduce waste without adding complexity to their operations.
What makes us different?
We’re not asking for money. We’re asking for surplus.
We don’t judge by shape or shelf life. We look at nutritional value and need.
And we’re backed by years of experience, a national logistics network, a growing fleet of trucks (including temperature-controlled options), and a data-rich impact platform that tracks every kilogram moved and every life touched.
Let’s Talk
SA Harvest is calling on all farmers, cooperatives, packhouses, and agri-businesses:
If you have surplus, we can rescue it, quickly, efficiently, and with purpose.
