On the day we dreamt of an initiative that would be felt beyond just Mandela Day, we never imagined that it would become a reality in which over 350 volunteers would come together across three cities and pack 2 879 buckets filled with protein, carbohydrates, vitamins and nutrients. The collective outpouring of kindness embodies the spirit of Madiba and we are deeply humbled by the generosity of so many.
There are too many stories to mention – of tears of joy when the buckets were handed out in the crime-stricken area of Lavender Hill, of the response of the logistics industry to our call to help get buckets to flood-ravaged Eastern Cape, of the messages of kindness and hope that were written on the buckets, of the gratitude of volunteers who felt the joy of knowing their contribution would make a significant impact in the lives of those in need.
